Eco Council

The Eco-group are busy running different campaigns this year:

What's under your feet? We are doing important fieldwork for the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), this entails digging up a small patch of grass on the school playing field, three times a year (October, March and June), to investigate the number of soil invertebrates. The data helps the BTO to understand why British birds are in decline through analysing the amount of food they have across the country.

Switch Off Fortnight. This takes place annually (November) and involves the whole school trying to save energy over a certain period of time. The Eco-group monitor the use of energy before and during switch off. This helps us understand how we can help the environment through using less energy (as well as saving energy!)

RSPB Big Schools' Bird Watch. During the bird watch we look for different birds on the school grounds, identify the species and count how many there are. The data is fed back to the RSPB.

Waste Week. This will take place from the 5th March until the 9th. This year's focus will be on food waste and packaging. We will also be doing litter picking and sending home Bag2school textile recycling bags.
